Donald L. Gardner, 86, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, September 9, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Calling hours will begin 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. unitl 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will take place at the Keota Cemetery in Keota, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Don was born June 20, 1936, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Elwyn and Leona (Wagner) Gardner. He graduated from Washington High School in 1954. Don was blessed with three daughters, Pamela, Penny and Donna, from his marriage to Carolynn Schantz. He later married Loretta (Disney) Kent in June of 1992.
Don worked several years with JC Penney Company and later worked as a delivery salesman for Jewel Tea Company from 1971 until his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement, Don drove a school bus for Keota Community Schools and was later a driver for the Washington County Mini Bus. He enjoyed, bowling, fishing, playing pool and traveling.
Don is survived by his wife, Loretta Gardner of Washington, Iowa; three daughters, Pamela Nebergall and husband Gary of Lebanon, Oregon; Penny Johnson and husband Eddie of Salem, Oregon; Donna Miller and husband Terry of Brighton, Iowa; and stepson, Scott Kent from Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Jan Kiesey and husband Jack of Washington, Iowa; sister, Joy Scheer and husband Mike of Clarence, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beverly Limauro.
