Donald L. Landes, 90, of Burlington, died Friday,
April 15, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born January 26, 1932, in Rural Denmark, IA, he was the son of Russell W. and Lucia A. Enslow Landes.
Donald was a graduate of Mt Pleasant High School. He attended Burlington Junior College, where he earned his A.A. degree in 1957. Donald served in the Army from December of 1952 to November of 1954 in the Korean War. He earned the rank of Corporal E4.
On October 23, 1955, he married Doris J. Dalrymple in Ft Madison, IA.
Donald worked in tool and die at Schaeffer Pen Company and taught precision machining at Southeastern Community College for 27 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Middletown Presbyterian Church and held several offices.
Donald received the Instruction Emeritus Award from Southeastern Community College in 1995. He enjoyed teaching, square dancing, visiting and helping friends and neighbors, and time spent in his machine shop. He was a member of the New London VFW Post 7641.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Burlington; two sons, Russell Landes of rural Denmark, IA, and Mark Landes of Brazil; one daughter, Brenda Wilkins of Danville, IA; three grandsons; two grandaughters; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Julia Royer of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, one grandson and one granddaughter.
The memorial service for Mr. Landes will be Monday, April 18, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service, Monday. Military Honors will be conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at a later date in Long Creek Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Salvation Army and Southeastern Iowa Regional Hospice House.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
