Donald Libe
Donald E. Libe, 80, of Washington, died Monday, July 11, 2016, in the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 15, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m., Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County and St. James Catholic Church.
Mr. Libe was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Washington, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Kurka) Libe. He married Beverly Wolfe on July 25, 1953, in Iowa City.
He graduated from Washington High School. He began farming south of Washington, which he continued with his brother, Bob, for over 40 years. Along with farming, he owned and operated Libe Custom Grinding. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Farm Bureau, and was a 4-H leader. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, life on the farm, all sports (he was a major Chicago Cubs fan), dancing, going to the races, hunting and woodworking.
Surviving are four children, Vicky and husband Del Ginder of Mason City, Steve Libe and fiancé Diane Joy of Ainsworth, Lisa and husband Lynn Harvey of Washington, and Joni and husband Paul Davis of Marthasville, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert and wife Jeanette Libe of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Mary Jo Wolfe.
