KALONA ? Donna Pauline Maas, 86, of Kalona, formerly of Iowa City, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 21, at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in Kalona with the Rev. Erling Shultz and the Rev. Leah Pogemiller, district superintendent, officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Center United Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Parkinson?s Disease Research and Iowa City Hospice.
Mrs. Maas was born April 10, 1930, in Yarmouth, the daughter of Kenneth and Ida Pauline (Carlson) Redfern. She married Meredith Maas Jr. on Sept. 18, 1953, at the Yarmouth Methodist Church.
She graduated from Yarmouth High School and Grinnell College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. She taught K-12 music in the Montezuma School District for several years. She taught piano lessons and worked at the University of Iowa as a transcriptionist for 12 years. She was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the UMW and directed the choir for 48 years. She was also a member of the OptiMrs, Order of the Eastern Star, Corona Chapter, Johnson County Farm Bureau and the Idris Club and Alpha Club of Kalona. She enjoyed music, gardening, sewing and other crafts.
Surviving are one son, Randy Maas of Keystone; one daughter, Marjorie McArtor and husband Tracy of Riverside; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Allen and husband Loren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Meredith Jr.; and one sister, Rita Redfern.
