Doris JoAnn Helfrich

      Doris JoAnn Helfrich, 73, of Iowa City, formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

      Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday in the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Elm Grove cemetery in Washington. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice.

      Mrs. Helfrich was born April 5, 1934, in Washington, the daughter of James M. and Beatrice (Wilson) Shafer. She married Dale E. Helfrich on Sept. 8, 1956 in Sigourney. She was previously married to Wilbur D. Darby.
