Doris L. Davidson, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, passed away under hospice care on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Killen, Alabama.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 12:00
p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Keota Cemetery with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent for Doris’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Doris was born October 9, 1933, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Tony Bates and Anna Pauline (Staggs) Prandy. She graduated from North English High School in 1951. Doris was united in marriage to Richard Eugene “Dick” Davidson on September 8, 1951, in North English, Iowa.
Doris spent her working years as a bookkeeper for the local Ford dealerships, Mace Motor Company and Schultz Ford in Washington and then Sheets Motors and Cordis Ford in Mt. Pleasant. Her last few working years were spent at the Washington School District’s Central Office.
Doris loved to play cards and quilt. She was a member of the monthly “Purple Bag Ladies” who played poker. Yes, always for money! Playing cards and games with her grandchildren was a favorite pastime. Over her lifetime she handmade quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Roberta Shirkey and husband Mike of Killen, Alabama; daughter Sally Davidson of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; son-in-law, Rich Pieffer of West Chester, Iowa; five grandchildren: April (Aaron) Six, Alissa (Rob) Schuerer, Anna (Dustin) McKenna, Staci (Rob) Mancusi and Phil (Bobbie) Peiffer; 15 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Russel Prandy of South Carolina and James Prandy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick in 2020; son John Rollin Davidson in 2015; daughter, Christy Peiffer in 2025; sister, Mary Alice Carter and brother, John Prandy.
