Doris L. McCarty, 91, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at her home in Salem.

Doris was born on March 15, 1931, at Lockridge, the daughter of James B. and Mary (Coady) Smith. Doris was united in marriage to Donald F. McCarty Sr. on August 9, 1975, at the Lockridge Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2013. She retired from Motorola of Mt. Pleasant. Doris enjoyed baking, making candy, going fishing and camping with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Don (Mai) McCarty Jr., of Salem and Tandee Moore of Missouri; nine grandchildren, Tina, Michael, Nami, James, Giorgio, Talun, Tai, Ashley and Shane; several great-grandchildren; her niece, Janet Benedict; and two nephews, Ron Zihlman and Harold Smith.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; two grandsons, Daniel and Jason; two brothers, Bernard Smith and Leonard Smith; and one sister, Kathryn Gilson.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. No services will be held and burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery at Salem. A memorial has been established and may be mailed to the family.
