Dorotha Virginia Haight, 83, of Winfield, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield with the Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield with family present in the basement of the Presbyterian Church immediately following the funeral service. A general memorial has been established in her name.
Mrs. Haight was born March 3, 1916, at Coppock, the daughter of Charles and Maude Carpenter Newman. She married Norris Jessup Haight on November 29, 1934, in Winfield. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1934. She and her husband lived on their farm east of Winfield from 1942-1963, when they moved to Winfield. She hung wallpaper and painted for people. She also worked at Suters Cafe, Ericksen's Variety Store, and the Winfield Market. She was a fifty-year member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active in several church-related organizations. She was also a fifty-year member of the Winfield O.E.S. Chapter. She was active in the Girl and Cub Scout organizations in earlier years, and served on the Winfield Library Board. She enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, gardening, and being with her friends and family.
Survivors include one daughter, Fleeta Lauber of Burlington; one son, Michael Haight of Sultan, Wash.; one brother, Charles Newman of Salem; one sister, Wanda Daniels of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Margaret Haight of Winfield; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Donald Newman.
