Dorothy Jean Weber, age 99, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Halcyon House under hospice care.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Calling hours will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 that morning. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for St. James Catholic Church and Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Dorothy was born May 5, 1925, in Harper, Iowa, the daughter of Robert F. and Rosa (Adam) Greiner. She attended school in Harper and Keota. Dorothy was united in marriage to Luke Weber on June 1, 1948, in Keota, Iowa.
Dorothy was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm operation. She was a lifelong resident of Washington and Keokuk Counties, moving to Washington, Iowa in 1981. Dorothy was an active member of St. James Catholic Church where she was a member of Catholic Daughters and involved in several church committees. Dorothy organized funeral luncheons for over 30 years and was the cook for the Knights of Columbus for eight years. Dorothy was a member of the Washington Lions Club and enjoyed attending Coffee Clubs with her friends. She kept active by exercising, riding her bike, taking walks, and attending Curves. Dorothy found joy in taking care of her yard, along with quilting, sewing, gardening, and baking angel food cakes.
Dorothy is survived by her sister-in-law, Frances Greiner of Washington, Iowa, and brother-in-law, Tony Weber, of Washington, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luke, in 2004; son, Michael in 1998; sister, Marie Hammes and husband Norbert; sister, Sr. Madeline May Greiner; brother, Ed W. Greiner and wife Kathryn; sister, Marjorie McMains and husband Robert; and brother, Robert L. Greiner.
