Dorothy Latcham, 92, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with Pastor Eric Schubert officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and her family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

Dorothy Johanna Versendaal was born the daughter of Andrew and Johanna (Geenan) Versendaal on September 4, 1929, near Kellogg, Iowa. She was raised near Sully, Iowa and attended Sully Christian School.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Lyle John Latcham on August 29, 1950 in Sully. Their marriage was blessed with six children: Dianna, Janice, Allen, David, Judith, and Carol. They raised their family in Sully and later in Montezuma, where John farmed for several years. They moved to Grinnell and Dorothy was employed at DeLong’s Sportswear as a seamstress for 43 years. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her steadfast faith, for the strong love of her family, and for the countless hours spent doing needlework, crochet, and sewing.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Dianna (Darlo) Kelting of Grinnell and Carol (Jeff) Oliver of Grinnell; her son, David (Annette) Latcham of Grinnell; daughter-in-law, Teresa (Allen) Latcham of Lynnville; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her siblings, Adrian (Kathy) Versendaal of Grinnell and Joan (Louis) Terlouw of Pella. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle John Latcham; daughters, Judith Latcham and Janice Reimers Kriegel; son, Allen Latcham; son-in-law, Harry Reimers; grandson, Lance Reimers; granddaughter, Cora Oliver; and siblings, Arie Versendaal, Mathilda Van Sant, and Marie Lender.
