Dorothy M. Winchip, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at the United Presbyterian Home.
Memorial services will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the United Presbyterian Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Union Cemetery in Maquoketa, Iowa, at a later date. Memorials have been established for Hospice Compassus, the United Presbyterian Home or for Parkinsons Research. Online condolences may be sent for Dorothy’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Dorothy was born November 14, 1941, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry “Hank” and Lucille (Dohse) Schnepel. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1959. Dorothy was united in marriage to Merton Eugene “Butch” Winchip on October 27, 1962, in Clinton, Iowa.
Dorothy has lived in Washington, Iowa, since 1981, where she worked in the Accounting Department of Seiferts and was a Pharmacy Tech at Schoonover Drug, The Pharmacy and Bean’s Pharmacy. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Football fan, attending all home games and traveling to the away games and bowl games. Dorothy loved her family and especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by five daughters: Becky (Adam) Sternglass of Elizabeth, New Jersey; Kristi (Scott) Myers of Eldora, Iowa; Shelley (Bryan) Kinneer of Moravia, Iowa; Toni (Aaron) Hesseltine of Washington, Iowa; and Gail (Terry) Rathmel of Washington, Iowa. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Abigail, Elizabeth, Joseph, Brady, Olivia, Matthew, Karlie, Kyle, Carter, Jackson and Madison; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Jan Bendixen of Coralville, Iowa; and Ruth Smith of Waukee, Iowa; and one brother, Marvin Schnepel of DeWitt, Iowa.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Butch in 2000; grandson, Sam Hesseltine; brother, William Schnepel; three brothers-in-law: Gene Collins, Dr. Ben Bendixen and Larry Smith; one sister-in-law, Alice Schnepel; and one nephew, Jeff Smith.
