Dorothy Marie Humphreys
Dorothy Marie Humphreys, 88, of Columbus Junction and formerly of the Wyman-Winfield rural area, died Saturday evening, Jan. 27, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield with the Rev. Chris Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow at the Cambrian Cemetery. Visitation will begin after noon on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established for various charitable organizations.
Mrs. Humphreys was born Oct. 22, 1912, at rural Columbus Junction, the daughter of Harry Arthur and Hazel Pearl Jones Fletcher. She married Edward L. Humphreys on Jan. 15, 1936, at Davenport. He preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1992. She attended the Pitchin and Amity country schools and graduated from Wyman High School in 1930. She was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church of rural Columbus Junction and had attended the United Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction. She was also a member of the Louisa County Farm Bureau and the Wyman Community Club. She had volunteered at the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction, and enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include her son, John and Gen Humphreys of Columbus Junction; two brothers, Ronald Fletcher of Grants, N.M. and Feryl Fletcher of Granada Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Geneva Simmons, Verlee Stewart, Lorena Boysen, Nelda Breuer and Ruth Keller; and two brothers, Harold Fletcher and Robert Fletcher.
