Dorothy Marie Pforts, 85,
of Keota, formerly of Washington, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at the University of
Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Private family burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, Nov. 8, at the funeral home with family present from
4 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to United Presbyterian Church, United Church of Faith in Keota or hospice.
Dorothy was born May 28, 1934, in Henry County, Iowa, the daughter of Paul Silas and Eda Barbara (Conrad) Liechty. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1952; and was united in marriage to Henry Dean Pforts, June 12, 1954, at the Winfield Presbyterian Church.
She was a faithful member of the Washington United Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday school, helping with church dinners and communion. She also was member of the American Legion Auxiliary, helping with poppies and chairing the committee.
She was employed with Sylvania in Burlington, Modine in Washington and managed HD Pforts Trucking.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, fishing, baking and making home made noodles.
Survivors include children, Ronald Pforts of Burlington, Mary Ann Sieren (Steve) of Keota and Franklin Pforts (Laura) Clearfield, Utah; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, one brother and three sisters.
