Dorothy Ruth Burkhiser

      Dorothy Ruth Burkhiser, 78, of Middletown, formerly of Danville, died at 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 at her home.

      The funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 2 at the Danville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Latta officiating. Burial was in the Middletown Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Danville United Methodist Church and Great River Medical Center Home Health Care.

      Mrs. Burkhiser was born on Aug. 1, 1924, in rural Yarmouth, the daughter of Robert R. and Esther Hannah Richardson. She married Everett V. Burkhiser on Feb. 8, 1948, in Winfield. She was a 1942 graduate of Danville High School and a graduate of the Iowa Wesleyan College secretarial program. She worked for Judge Bainter in Mt. Pleasant before her marriage. She enjoyed genealogy and growing flowers. She was a member of Danville United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She also was a member of United Methodist Women, Charity and Sunshine Circles and was a Danville area 4-H leader.

      Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Ruth Ann and her husband Gordon Holze of Dunlap, Ill., Janet and her husband Steve Williams of Cedar Rapids, and Norma and her husband Clark Whitaker of rural Hillsboro; nine grandchildren; a sister, Helen Edwards of Ainsworth; and a brother, Floyd Richardson of Crawfordsville.

      Preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Carol Diane; and a grandson.
