Doug Grimm, 66, of Washington, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Service of Columbus Junction. Interment will be held at Columbus City Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Doug. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.sandhfuneralservices.com.
Douglas Arthur Grimm was born October 9, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Paul and Virginia (Leferink) Grimm. He attended Columbus Community Schools. Doug worked for Whitesell for over 30 years. He had also previously worked for Heinz and Rath Manufacturing.
Doug enjoyed bowling, antiquing, attending auctions and gambling. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR fan and loved to ride motorcycles. Doug was a very proud grandpa and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He never knew a stranger and was known for his great smile and friendly personality. Doug, lovingly known as "Big Bird," took time for every person he knew and loved and made sure you knew how important you were to him.
Doug will be dearly missed by his children: Amy (Lee) Applegate of Washington; Jamie (Rachel) Grimm of Center Point; and Jason (Ashlee) Grimm of Conesville; grandchildren: Cooper Grimm, Bailey Graber, Dallas Grimm, Drake Grimm, Abbi Dewolf (Levi Giese), Bryce Dewolf, Jackson Kane, Boden Kane, Levi Applegate and Dalton Applegate; one great-granddaughter, Ellie Marie Giese; siblings: Steve (Deb) Grimm of Seattle, WA; Charlotte (Steve) Mohror of Columbus Junction; Mavis Murray (Mike Meuer) of Linden, WI; and Todd (Nancy) Grimm of Ainsworth; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeremy; and brother, Scott.
