Douglas (Doug) William Philips, 56, of Keosauqua, Iowa, passed away Jan. 8, 2020, in Delta County, Colorado. He is survived by his children, Judith Hannah Philips and Will Craven Philips; his sister, Susan Kauber (Steve); nephew, Jack Kauber; niece, Cate Kauber; and his father, Kriss Philips (Jo).

He was preceded in death by his mother Dixie Lee Philips.

Doug was born in Mexico City, Mo., on July 21, 1963. After graduation from Nevada, Iowa, High School, he served in the U.S. Navy and spent much of that time in the Persian Gulf. Doug was pursuing a degree in philosophy and religion at the University of Northern Iowa, when he met his wife. Doug's married life was in Keosauqua, Iowa, where he was involved in organic gardening. Doug was known for his commitment to living off the land. He also was an avid reader, always ready to recommend a good book. Doug will be greatly missed by family and many friends.
