Douglass Alan White, 79,
of Fairfield, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 21, 2021. He passed away due to ongoing medical conditions while living in Taiwan.
Doug graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. and Ph.D in linguistics and Asian languages, doing a stint at National Taiwan University. He went on to teach literature and Asian languages at Maharishi International University for many years.
He had a thirst for knowledge and was a seeker of ancient cultures and languages. Doug had a lifelong passion for theology, numerology, and antiquities, particularly ancient texts of Egypt, China and India. He was interested in integrating ancient teachings into universal truths accessible to all. Doug published numerous essays, as well as a unique Ancient Egyptian Tarot card deck. During his last quarter century of life, Doug lived intermittently in Taiwan and Iowa, studying, writing, teaching English and teaching an open-source blend of meditation, personal leadership, cognitive therapy and stoicism. He loved sharing his knowledge with his students.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; former wife, Bonnie; sibling, Marj; three children, Julan, John and Jeddin; and grandchildren Soley, Jonina, Vikingur, Alexandru, Maria, Sinjin and Bode.
A memorial will be held in Taipei, Taiwan, April 2, and in Fairfield, Iowa, at the Cider House on July 5,
