Dr. David Temple
OSKALOOSA ? Dr. David C. Temple, 68, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Des Moines and of Osage Beach, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, in Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services Serenity House.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation began at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 21, at the funeral chapel, where the family will be present to greet visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Dr. Temple was born Feb. 4, 1947, in Washington, the son of Sikke David and Beulah Evelyn (Stewart) Temple. He was the oldest of 11 children. He married JoAnna Ellen Ide on Aug. 7, 1982, at the First Presbyterian Church in Washingtovi
He attended Keota High School; but a year prior to graduation, he was sent to the University of Iowa to continue his studies. He graudated in 1968 with a degree in chemistry and then was recruited to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At that time he was also required by the military to serve in the Naval Reserve in the Medical Service Corps. In 1972 he returned to the University of Iowa, where he attended the College of Medicine and graduated in 1976. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Lutheran Hospital/Gunderson Clinic in La Crosse, Wis., in 1979 before beginning medical practice with Dr. Paul From in Des Moines. He practiced medicine in the Des Moines area, serving at both Mercy Medical Center and Lutheran Hospital. After receiving his certification in geriatrics in 1990, he practiced for three years with CIGNA Health Plan of Arizona in Sun City, before returning to Des Moines. In 2003 he accepted a position as hospitalist with the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Mo., and remained in Missouri until retiring to Oskaloosa in 2014. He and his wife made their home in Des Moines. He was a true family man and was also very passionate about his career. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed military history books. He was also a loyal Hawkeye fan and tried not to miss watching a game. His dogs were also very important to him.
Surviving are his wife, Jo, of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Sara Kloch and husband Brad of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Allison Sidwell and husband Kevin of Des Moines; two sons, Adam Temple of Iowa City, and Gregory Temple and wife Jessica of Des Moines; four grandchildren; his parents, Sikke and Beulah Temple of Washington; five brothers and their spouses, Bruce and Jan Temple of Ainsworth, Tim Temple of Washington, Jeff and Shirley Temple of Crawfordsville, Pete and Marty Temple of Defiance, and Warren and Sheila Temple of Keota; five sisters and their spouses, Mary Temple of Washington, Barb and Denny Cozad of Wichita, Kan., Evelyn and Francis Greiner of Keota, Katie Temple and John Reeve of Runnels, and Dr. Beth Temple and John Kirk of Moline, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
