DUANE ALLEN DIENER
Washington
Duane Allen Diener, 61, passed away from a sudden illness at K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., on Feb. 22, 2020, surrounded by his family and friends. Duane was born Feb. 20,1959, in Washington, Iowa, to Eber and Vera Diener. He graduated from New London High School in 1977. Duane attended photography school at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, Iowa. He married the love of his life, Kelly Sharp, on Aug. 4, 1979. A son, David, was born to the union.
Duane worked in his career for L.J. Roth Construction of Olds, Iowa, for 14 years, sharpening his skills and developing a love for woodworking. He also worked for American Family Insurance four years before going on his first missions trip to Guatemala. Sensing the call of God to the mission field, in 1993 Duane and Kelly moved their family to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, working with the Harvesters and Helping Hands Ministry. For many years, Duane worked as the director of the Bible School. Then the decision was reached to work exclusively in the local men's and women's prisons. The ministry was called Rompiendo Cadenas (Breaking Chains). His heart was to show them God's love and bring real life change. Duane's impact of 27 years in missions work has changed the lives of thousands of people.
A memorial service will be held at 4: 30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Faith Christian Outreach Church, Mount Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are deeply appreciated. Memorials may be sent to F.C.O.C., P.O. Box 286, Mount Pleasant, IA 52641.
Duane is survived by his wife, Kelly, of 40 years; son, David (Unso) Diener, and one grandson, Lucian; siblings, Rozella Diener, Mary Helen Farrier, Glen (Karen) Diener, Daniel (Lisa) Diener; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eber and Vera Diener.
