BRIGHTON ? Duane Joseph Mottet, 85, of rural Brighton, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, in Halcyon House in Washington.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with the Rev. Robert Striegel and the Rev. Bernie Weir, concelebrants, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Sunday at the church, followed by prayers for a Christian wake at 3 p.m. Memorials to St. Joseph Cemetery Association or Hospice of Washington County may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 3360 Fir Avenue, Brighton, IA 52540. Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mottet was born Nov. 30, 1930, in West Chester, the son of Laurence Xavier and Mary Winifred (Streb) Mottet. He married Carol Webb on April 24, 1954, at St. Elizabeth Church in Harper.
He grew up in Grace Hill north of Brighton and attended country school. He and his wife lived on the family farm near Brighton. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was an avid traveler, traveling extensively throughout the United States, Korea, Scotland and Australia. He and his wife spent winters in Mission, Texas, for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; four children, Daniel Mottet and wife Barbara of Brighton, Douglas Mottet and wife Jane of Kansas City, Missouri, Timothy Mottet and Rick Gonzalez of Maryville, Missouri, and Julie Johnson and husband Rob of Washington; seven grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and one sister, Dolores Brown of Mount Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Catherine Godwin, Jeneta Weltha, and Helen McDowell; and three brothers, Francis, Bernard, and Dick Mottet.
