Duane Van Winkle

Duane Van Winkle, 87, of Newport, Tenn., died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at his home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at the All Faiths Mausoleum in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater Tenn., with Chaplin Robert Mills, Sr. of the 82 Airborne Greater Daytona, Tenn. Chapter, officiating. Military honors will be rendered by members of the American Legion Post No. 285 of Edgewater.

Mr. Van Winkle was born in Brighton, Iowa. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the 82nd Airborne 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment and was a charter member of the 82nd Airborne Greater Daytona Chapter. After 1971, he resided in Edgewater, where he had been a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service. He moved to Newport in 1995.

He is survived by one son, Gary Van Winkle of Denham Springs, La; one daughter, Donna Roue of Newport; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy ?Dottie? Van Winkle in 1996.
