Dwight L. Westercamp, 84, of rural Batavia, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa, Iowa. A private family burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa. Visitation for Dwight will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. Family members will not be present during this time. Please use common courtesy and plan accordingly. Cranston Family Funeral Home will stay in compliance and not allow more than 10 people at one time in or around the funeral home (this includes our staff) and will also use the suggestion of CDC to keep people within six feet from one another. Dwight L. Westercamp was born on Oct. 29, 1935, in rural Mahaska County to Lewis and Eva Storm Westercamp. He attended school in Hedrick, Iowa, where he graduated with the Class of 1954. From an early age Dwight had a love for farming and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and trapping and raised coon hounds for several years. Dwight worked away from home as the owner/operator of the Richland Meat Locker for 15 years and then spent 17 years working maintenance at Harper Brush until his retirement in 1993. On Jan. 26, 1980, in Fairfield, Iowa, Dwight was united in marriage to Marjorie Wharton. This was the first chapter in a story that lasted more than 40 years. Upon Dwight's retirement he downsized the animals that were kept on the farm and began raising and showing Flemish Giant Rabbits. Dwight's rabbit was crowned the largest rabbit in the state of Iowa at the 2012 Iowa State Fair, a record that he still holds to this day. Dwight also had a passion for forestry, which led to many trees being planted on his property. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, as well as five sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Dorothy Kimbrell, Donna Walden, Betty Johnson and Martha June Thomsen.

Left to share his story are his loving wife, Marjorie Westercamp of Batavia, Iowa; two sons, Lewis Westercamp of Wayland, Iowa, and Doug (Lisa) Westercamp of Trenton, Iowa; stepson, Craig (Rhonda) Wharton of Brighton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Brandi Westercamp, Dwight (DJ) Westercamp, Stephanie Wharton and Jennifer Wharton; two siblings, Ruth (Harold) Martin of Waterloo, Iowa, and Dwayne (Twilla) Westercamp of Bellevue, Neb.; as well as many extended family and friends.
