Edith May George, 92, of Lockridge, died Friday, March 28, at Jefferson County Hospital.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, April 1, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the First Augustana Lutheran Church of Lockridge, with the Rev. Fran Griffeth officiating. Burial will be at Lockridge Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 27, 1916, in Henry County, the daughter of Martin and Bessie Long Johnson. On Dec. 28, 1938, she married John "Tiny" George in rural Lockridge.
A graduate of Lockridge High School in 1934, she received teacher's training at Parson's College in Fairfield. She taught for two years at a rural country school north of Lockridge and cooked at the Lockridge School.
She was a charter member of the Lockridge Kitchen Band, performing at the Iowa State Fair. She was an active member of the First Augustana Lutheran Church of Lockridge and a member of the WELCA.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin George and his wife Judy of Hamilton, Ill., and John George and his wife Karen of Northfield, Minn.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, and sisters Edna Johnson and Vivian Countryman.
