Edna E. Garner
Edna E. Garner, 100, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. David Plooster of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation began at noon today at the Weir Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. this evening. A memorial has been established to the Pleasant Manor Care Center.
Mrs. Garner was born Sept. 22, 1899, in Fayette, Mo., the daughter of John E. and Reno Johnson Downey. She married John G. Garner on Jan. 16, 1926 in Fayette, Mo. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church, she and her husband owned and operated Garner Gardens on North Cherry St. for several years until retiring in 1980.
Survivors include one son, Paul G. Garner of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Lois Ceynar of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Lawrence and Lloyd Downey, both of Mt. Pleasant, and John R. Downey of New London; two sisters, Eva Lewis of Sedalia, Mo. and Winona Howard of Euless, Texas; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter; and one sister, Olive Kubite.
