Edward E. Jarrard, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, January 8, 2021, at
the United Presbyterian
Home in Washington following a long battle with dementia.
A celebration of life

Ed was born January 23, 1931, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Walter W. and Katharine (Rich) Jarrard. He attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1949. Ed served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 until 1953. He was united in marriage to Pauline Amenell on October 23, 1955, in Mediapolis, Iowa.
Ed was a lifelong resident of Washington County where he farmed north of Washington until his retirement in 1997. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church where he served on several committees. He was a member of the Washington Pilot Association, International Flying Farmers, and served on the Board of Directors of the Washington State Bank for 35 years. In his earlier years he was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, gardening and flying his Piper airplane. Ed also liked inventing and keeping up with current trends in business. He was a great teacher, mentor and role model to his sons, daughters and anyone who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane McKenzie and husband Bill of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter, Carol Enfield and husband Doug of Crawfordsville, Iowa; son, Brian Jarrard and wife Ly of Torrance, California; son Andy Jarrard and wife Pam of Marion, Iowa; and seven grandchildren: Katie Pierson, Abbie Pierson, Rachel Zmolek, Becca Enfield, Regan Enfield, Brenden Jarrard and Leona Jarrard.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline, in 2020; brother, Clarence Jarrard; and sister, Edith Kerr.
