Edward John Doran, 90, of Victor, IA passed away on February 1, 2026, at his home in Victor, IA.
This is the same home that Ed was born and raised in.
A Funeral Mass was held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Victor, IA. Burial was held at Calvary Cemetery in Victor, IA followed by a luncheon back at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church.
A Rosary was held at 3:00 pm followed by a visitation from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, February 6, 2026, at Smith Funeral Home in Victor, IA.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made payable to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Essence of Life Hospice, or University of Iowa Center for Advancement c/o Stead Family Children’s Hospital Fund mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 485, Victor, IA 52347.
Ed was born July 18, 1935, in Victor, IA to John Edward and Catherine “Bonnie” (Brougham) Doran. Alongside his six siblings, Ed was raised in Victor and graduated from St. John’s Catholic School with the class of 1954.
On October 2, 1965 Ed was united in marriage to Joan Thys at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Victor, IA. To this union, the couple had three children, David, Doug, and LuAnn. In October of 2025 Ed and Joan celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Ed worked in production his entire professional career, spending 24 years at Amana Refrigeration and 19 years at Kinze Mfg. Ed took a lot of pride in everything he did. At one time Ed worked 3 Jobs so that Joan could be home with their children.
He served as a volunteer firefighter, was a member of the KC’s and the Jaycee’s.
Ed and Joan liked to travel and made trips to Florida, the Bahamas, and was able to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in Alaska. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and camping at Lake Iowa. Ed was the Captain of his 35-foot pontoon boat named, “The Doran’s Dingy.” He was very proud of this boat that he built from the pontoons up with help from his Father In-law and both sons. Ed loved long Sunday drives in his favorite cars, a ’63 Oldsmobile Skyliner, and his ’65 Red Chrysler Imperial Convertible. He took his classic cars to car shows and drove them in parades. Ed was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeye football team. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and musicals when they were in school.
Above all, Family and Friends were the most important things in Ed’s life. Ed loved his Family with all his Heart! Ed was very proud of his Family and made sure they all knew it.
Ed was known for his Smile, the twinkle in his eyes, his sense of humor and his Big Heart. He loved to tell jokes and was the best storyteller. He was a warm and loving man, always willing to lend a hand.
Ed had a way of pulling people in and once you were in, Ed treated you like Family. Everyone knew Ed. No matter how far he traveled, he always seemed to run into someone that he knew.
Ed is survived by his wife, Joan of Victor, IA, his children, David (Paula) Doran of Ladora, IA, LuAnn (Michael) Green) of Victor, IA, his grandchildren, Connor (Halle) Doran of Belle Plaine, IA, Mariah (Jake Viner) Doran of North Liberty, IA, Joanna Green of Victor, IA, his stepgrandchildren, Troy (Nikki) Green, Cedar Rapids, IA, Bailey (Erek Armentrout) Green, Chicago, IL, and Maryjo Green of Council Bluffs, IA, his great-grandchild, Layken Doran, his stepgreat-grandchildren, Orion and Draco, and Alaina and Sylvi Green, and his brother Bill Doran.
He is preceded by his son, Doug Doran, his parents, John and Catherine, his brothers, Jim Doran, John “David” Doran, and Don Doran, sisters, Helen LaVelle and Katherine Cooney, his brothers-in-law, John LaVelle, and John Cooney, his sisters-in-law, Pam Thys, Dorothy Doran, Mary Doran, and Marie Doran, and his niece, Casey Matthews and nephew Charlie Bargiachi.
