Edward Lee “Ed” Peters, age 77, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his residence under hospice care.

Celebration of life services and interment will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for Ed’s family at www.jonesfh.com.

Ed was born July 24, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Kenneth L. and Velma M. (Stephenson) Peters. He attended school in Columbus Junction, graduating from high school in 1963. Following graduation, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably for six years. He was united in marriage to Diane L. Cutler on June 9, 1978.

Ed lived most of his life in Columbus Junction, Iowa. He and Diane moved to the Florida Keys in 2000 and later lived in Hudson, Florida, before moving to Washington, Iowa, in 2022. He worked for his dad at Peters Plumbing and Heating for many years. Ed was a member of the Masonic Lodge and KAABA Shrine. He spent countless hours collecting pop tops for the Shriners. While in Florida, Ed and Diane enjoyed selling Kettle Corn. Ed enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets, especially the Sharpless auction. He would always bring home many “treasures” and baked goods to share with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Peters of Washington, Iowa; son, Brett (Pam) Dowell of Mediapolis, Iowa; son, Michael (Kim) Peters of Fresno, California; son, Christopher (Lisa) Peters of Ashton, Iowa; son, Don (Jenny) Zaehringer of Columbus Junction, Iowa; daughter, Kelly Schnepper of Wilton, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
