COLUMBUS JUNCTION ? Edward Sylvanus Massey, 90, of Columbus Junction, died Monday, July 27, 2015, in Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 31, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Memorials may be directed to members of his family.
Mr. Massey was born July 9, 1925, in Salem, the son of Merle and Hazel (Bice) Massey. He married Marjorie May Good on March 28, 1948, in Mount Pleasant.
He proudly served his country in the Navy in World War II as a carpenter?s mate third class. He was a farmer and a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Lions Club, the Order of Odd Fellows, and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, fishing, gardening, playing cards, puzzles, telling jokes, socializing, camping, stamp collecting, walking three miles a day, and most of all, spending time with family and grandchildren.
Surviving are four children, Linda Mowry and husband Gary of Bennett, Mike Massey and wife Shirley of Crawfordsville, Keith Massey and wife Sherry of Crawfordsville, and Julie Gaumnitz and husband Robert of Herrin, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Massey and wife Mabel of Broomfield, Colo.; and one sister-in-law, Jean Jones of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one sister, Marjorie Walsh.
