Edward Semler
WELLMAN ? Edward Lewis Semler, 83, of Wellman, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman with the Rev. Terry Small officiating. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Hospice Compassus.
Mr. Semler was born July 22, 1932, in Washington County near Wellman, the son of Frederick Karl and Mae Florence (Stumpf) Semler. He married Ruth Swanson on June 15, 1956, at the St. John?s Lutheran Church in Wellman.
He attended rural Country School Union No. 1 and graduated from Wellman High School in 1950. He had lived in the Wellman community all of his life, where he owned and operated Semler Hardware for 30 years and retired in 1996. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wellman and a member of the Jolly Men?s Club. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed draft horses and working on his acreage.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth, of Wellman; one son, Scott Semler and wife Sheila of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Leo Semler and wife Karen of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe, George, and Donald; and two sisters, Dorothy Lemley, and Clara Jordan.
