NORTH ENGLISH ? Edwin Earl Frederick, 86, of South English, died Friday, April 29, 2011, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Mr. Frederick was born Sept. 15, 1924, the son of Clarence L. and Lillian (Miller) Frederick. He married Betty Louise Hearn on Jan. 8, 1950, in Tipton.
He grew up in the Tipton community, graduating from Tipton High School and Tipton Junior College. He served in the Navy during World War II. He and his wife lived in Mechanicsville, Kinross and North English before moving to the farm near South English, where he resided for 51 years. He worked a few years at Amana Refrigeration and at Smitty?s Feeds in Kinross. He farmed most of his life. He liked reading and keeping up with current events, watching wildlife, taking the bank trips (once his wife convinced him to go), and he loved being around his grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Peppers and husband Johnny of Blue Springs, Mo.; six sons, Fritz Frederick and wife Del of North English, Steve Frederick of South English, Craig Frederick and wife Becky of Keota, Marlin Frederick and wife Jan of Webster, Raymond Frederick of South English, and Brent Frederick and wife LeAnn of Williamsburg; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Odette Williams of Cedar Rapids, and Norma Livezy of Petersburg, Ill.; and two brothers, Ellis (Tiny) Frederick of North English, and James Frederick of Springville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on May 12, 2008; one daughter-in-law, Amy Frederick; four brothers, Gale, Donald, Arnold, and Clarence Frederick Jr.; and one sister, Darlene Zenisek.
