EILEEN STOCKMAN JENNINGS
Winfield
Eileen Stockman Jennings, 84, died February 15, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Born in Trenton, Iowa on February 6, 1938, and raised in Winfield, Iowa, she was the daughter of Dora Naomi Hite and Lacey Virgil Stockman.
Eileen married her husband of 65 years, Vivan Malcolm Jennings; and had three children, Kathy Jo, Karen Jean and Stephen Malcolm, to whom she gave everything she had to give. She shared her creativity with her family and the world through a passion for history and antiques, genealogy, cooking and gardening. As a member of the Embroiderers' Guild of America, she was a master in needle arts including needlepoint, drawn thread, hardanger, knitting and quilting.
Eileen attended and graduated from the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines as she supported her husband's education at Iowa State University (ISU), then earned a Bachelor's in Home Economics from ISU. When the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa she taught "Home Ec" at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, Iowa.
The family then returned to Ames, Iowa, where they lived for over 25 years. During that time, Eileen owned and operated a stitchery shop, The Stitch Inn, which she relocated to Washington, D.C. when she, Vivan and Stephen moved there in 1986. There she became a Level 3 Reiki Master and earned her doctorate in Hypnotherapy. After Vivan's retirement, they renovated and resided at Vivan's childhood farmstead in Columbus Junction. This was a time of hard work with lots of laughter as they returned to living in a trailer as they did at the beginning of their marriage.
Eileen loved to travel domestically and overseas to Hawaii, Jamaica, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Russia and Hungary to name a few. Her trip to the Holy Land with her friend Marietta was the highlight of her travels; she shared those memories in a slideshow with many.
Eileen is survived by her daughter, Kathy Jo Jennings Buxton, son-in-law, Martin Jay Buxton and granddaughter, Rayna Pearl Buxton; her daughter, Karen Jean Jennings McGuiness and granddaughter, Olivia Jennings McGuiness; her son, Stephen Malcolm Jennings; and by her sister, Norma Marie Brunk.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mark Jeffrey McGuiness; her brothers and sisters, Richard Phillip Stockman, Helen Maxine Ayde, Virgil Edward Stockman, Jr., Delbert Francis Stockman, Wanda L. Tate, Louise Kay Wagg and Larry John Stockman; and her parents, Dora Hite Stockman and Lacey Virgil Stockman.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2021, at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Winfield, 102 S. Olive St., Winfield, Iowa. Interment will be held at Spring Run Cemetery. Following the committal service, a reception where refreshments will be served will be held at the VFW in Winfield. A memorial has been established for the family in Eileen's name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
