Elizabeth "Kay" Young, 83, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City, Iowa.
A memorial service with the Rev. Trey Hegar, officiating, will be held at
1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at First Presbyterian Church. Family will greet friends following the service. Burial will proceed the service, at 11:30 a.m. at Forest Home Cemetery.

Born Jan. 23, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, Elizabeth Kay was the daughter of Sam R. and Mary Virginia (Crane) Ewart. She was a 1954 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and a 1958 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College. On Sept. 2, 1956, at First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, Kay married Robert B. Young Jr., who preceded her in death on May 13, 2010.
Professionally, Kay taught high school English, was a Farm Bureau Insurance agent, worked at the Iris Restaurant and taught English as a second language. Kay was a founder of the Mount Pleasant Community Theater and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir.
She enjoyed being active in politics and was a dedicated Democrat. Her hobbies included quilting, bridge and staying current on world events.
Survivors include one daughter, Sara Young (husband, John Christensen) of Spring Green, Wis.; two sons, Steven (Melanie) Young of West Burlington and Philip (Cindy) Young of Burlington; special niece, Susan Ito of Oakland, Calif.; and four grandchildren, David Young of Orlando, Fla., Abby Young of New London Iowa, Mariah Young of Denver, Colo., and Aaron Christensen of Spring Green, Wis.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Bradley Ewart.
