Elizabeth L. 'Betty' Stoner

Elizabeth L. "Betty" Stoner, 79, of Mt. Pleasant died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Park Place Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Kiboko I. Kiboko officiating. Interment will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 14, at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. There will be no family visitation at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Crossroads Hospice or the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Stoner was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Edward V. and Grace E. Thompson Yocum. She married Harold R. "Bill" Stoner on Aug. 2, 1941, in Nashua. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1939 and worked for The Mt. Pleasant News as a proofreader for 27 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant and was a weekly volunteer at the information desk of the Henry County Health Center.

Survivors include two sons, Ted Stoner of rural Mt. Pleasant and Tim Stoner of Mt. Pleasant; and one brother, Jack E. Yocum of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Joe F. Yocum.
