Elizabeth “Liz” A. Staats, age 42, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals following a year long battle with leukemia.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Wapello Cemetery in Wapello, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Domestic Abuse Prevention through Marion Avenue Baptist Church. Online condolences may be sent for Liz’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Liz was born September 21, 1980, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of James C. and Julie (Kemp) Staats. She graduated from Suburban Heights Christian School in Fairfield and attended Providence Baptist College in Elgin, Illinois for 2 years. Liz lived in Phoenix, Arizona for several years where she was a medical receptionist. She moved to Columbus Junction, Iowa in 2020 where she worked at Walmart in Muscatine until her health wouldn’t allow it. Liz was a member of the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington and previously a member of 1st Baptist Church in Mediapolis. She loved to sing and had a good listening ear. Liz was an “encourager” to her family and friends.
She is survived by her father, James C. Staats and wife Jackie of Columbus Junction, Iowa; brothers, Jason Staats of Iowa City, Iowa and Joshua C. Staats of Springfield, Oregon; and several nieces.
Liz was preceded in death by her mother in 2003; and sister, Tamara Tiedt, in 2020.
