Elmer G. Mathews

Elmer Glen Mathews, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit.

Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Elliott Chapel in New London. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. Burial will be at Burge Cemetery in New London following cremation.

A memorial has been established for the Mt. Pleasant Library, or the donor's choice.

He was born May 5, 1920, in Hereford, Colo., the son of Glen and Jessie Garrels Mathews.

A graduate of Mt. Union High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer, raising sheep as well as doing upholstery and working as a janitor at the Henry County Courthouse. He served on the board of directors for Northern Electric Light Company and was a Marion township trustee for many years.

He is survived by his sister, Velma Williams and her husband Morris of Mt. Pleasant.

His parents, brothers Herman and Albert and sisters Annabell Nichols and Nellie May Starkey preceded him in death.
