Elmer H. "Al" Krueger, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, Oct. 11, at Arbor Court.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Michael Scudder officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Born March 27, 1923, in Wausau, Wis., Al was the son of Oscar and Alma Zimmermann Krueger. On June 26, 1955, he married Carol Horn in Janesville, Wis. Al graduated from Wausau High School in 1941. After being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, he served in the European Theatre in France and Germany. Mr. Krueger was a combat veteran in the 63rd Infantry Division. After the war he was stationed in Germany as part of the occupation forces. He was honorably discharged in April 1946.
Following his discharge, Al attended the University of Wisconsin in Wausau and Madison, graduating in January 1950. After graduation, he was employed by the J.C. Penney Company for 33 years, working at stores in Madison, Janesville and Beloit, Wis., and in St Louis, Mo. From 1964 to the time of his retirement in 1983, he was the manager of the J. C. Penney Store in Mt. Pleasant.
Al was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he served as president, elder, Sunday School superintendent, teacher and sang in the choir. He taught 6th grade confirmation class for 13 years. Mr. Krueger was also a member of Mt. Pleasant Rotary from 1964 to 2000, serving as president and secretary. He was honored by being named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. Al enjoyed gardening, golfing and collecting beer steins.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Barry Krueger and his wife Patricia of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mark Krueger of Aurora, Neb.; one daughter, Laurie Larsen of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Florence Radtke of Solon Springs, Wis., and Loretta (Franklin) Radke and her husband Franklin of Wausau, Wis.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving are two half-sisters, one niece and four nephews.
His parents, an infant brother, his stepmother, one half-sister and one half-brother have preceded him in death.
