WELLMAN ? Elray Eugene Hoylman, 84, of North English, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, in his home.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at West Union Mennonite Church in Parnell. His family was present to greet visitors from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday at the church. Burial was at the West Union Mennonite Cemetery, followed by a reception at the West Union Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be sent to: Essence of Life Hospice in Iowa, 3207 220th Trail, Amana, IA 52203. Powell Funeral Homes handled the arrangements.
Mr. Hoylman was born June 19, 1931, in Holbrook, the son of William and Hettie (Miller) Hoylman. He married Iva Marie Miller on June 27, 1954.
He attended Kinross Schools. Over the years he farmed in various locations in eastern Iowa and Florida. After years of farming, he was employed with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics until his retirement in 2000. Throughout his life he was involved in church activities and was willing to serve others in any capacity. He served his community with his involvement as a 4-H leader, and as a member of the Cattlemen?s board and the Farm Bureau Board. For several years during his retirement, camping with family and friends throughout the United States was a big part of the travels he and his wife enjoyed. He also continued to assist with the fall harvest with his son and his son-in-law. He also enjoyed planting and harvesting his garden and taking care of his lawn. He enjoyed being with his family and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Iva Marie Miller Hoylman; five children, James Hoylman and Janice Hepker of Webster, Beth Henning and husband Donald of Chelsea, William Hoylman and Cindy Herman of South English, Jane Ackerman and husband Paul of North English, and Dawn Edeker and husband Randy of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Clifton, Clinton, Rueben, and Wayne; two sisters, Shirley Hershberger, and Hilda Burkholder Hershberger; and one great-granddaughter.
