KALONA ? Elva Bender, 95, of Kalona, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. Larry Rediger officiating. Burial will follow at the East Union Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church.
Miss Bender was born April 21, 1920, in Exland, Wis., the daughter of Harvey and Anna (Miller) Bender.
She was a seamstress and a member of the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church. She enjoyed quilt piecing, gardening, and, in her younger years, weaving rugs. She taught a class of young girls on how to sew. After she was unable to piece quilts herself, she began cutting quilt blocks for others. She always found work to do and enjoyed staying busy.
Surviving are one brother, John Bender of Kalona; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David Bender; and three sisters, Mary Yoder, Lydia Swantz, and Martha Stoddard.
