Emma Jane Hedges

Emma Jane Hedges, 87, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, April 22, 2000.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Topeka, Kan. with the Rev. Rath of the Faith Lutheran Church officiating.

Mrs. Hedges was born July 19, 1912, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Clearence E. and Ethel Taft Smith. She married DeVon Hedges of Mt. Pleasant on July 6, 1934. They moved to St. Louis, Mo. and in 1954 moved to Topeka, Kan.

Survivors include one brother, Wendell T. Smith of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Kathryn Hannum and Louise Trueblood, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Beverly Griggs of Washington; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gary Dean Hedges; and four brothers, Edward, Carroll, Walter and Paul Smith.
