Emmet Ray Spraker
Emmet Ray Spraker, 81, of 500 South Chestnut in New London, formerly of Mt. Pleasant died at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2000, at his home in New London.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Elliott Chapel in New London with the Rev. Tom Henstock officiating. Interment will be in the Burge Cemetery in New London. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at Elliott Chapel. Memorials have been established to the New London Presbyterian Church and the Southeast Iowa Crossroads Hospice.
Mr. Spraker was born May 28, 1918, in Frederick, S.D., the son of Arthur LeRoy and Minnie R. Brown Spraker. He married Sarah Elizabeth Liechty on Oct. 31, 1945 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a 1937 graduate of the Mt. Pleasant Community High School. He worked for Spahn and Rose Lumber in New London. He was a member of the New London Presbyterian Church. For 10 years, he owned and operated the Wen-Mar Cafe in Danville. He was a Staff-Sergeant in the Air Force during WWII.
Survivors include his wife of New London; three daughters, Sandra Kay Chrapla of Scottsdale, Ariz., Sharon Rae Kurth of Mt. Pleasant, and Susan Mae Spraker of New London; one brother, Arthur LeRoy Spraker, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and four sisters.
