ERIC JAMES WENGER
Greenville, N.C.
Eric James Wenger, 46, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 7, 2022, in Greenville, N.C. He was born May 24, 1975, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to Jim and Linda Wenger. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Elmer and Lucille Wenger and John Cooper, "Jack."
Eric grew up on his family's farm in Ainsworth, Iowa, attending Ainsworth Elementary and graduating from Highland High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University in 1997.
Eric married the love of his life, Willow, in 2007 in Southern California. He was a devoted husband and father, committed to providing spiritually and in all other respects for his family. God blessed Eric over the years, allowing him to see four of his children saved.
In 2010, Eric went to work for Applied Research Associates in Raleigh, where he was able to express his dedication to country through the work he did with the Air Force, the Intelligence Community, and other Department of Defense entities. Eric's associates, friends and family appreciated his leadership, his God-given "knack" for scientific learning, and his ability to explain complex concepts patiently in simple, concise terms.
Though he excelled in technology, Eric also enjoyed the opportunity to work with his hands. He spent countless hours engaged in "fix-it" projects with his sons and daughters, passing along practical skills taught to him by his father on the farm, as well as learned through his own research and education.
Eric is survived by his wife, Willow; and five children, Bohdan (14), Nason (11), Rose (8), Dori Mae (6), and Zetta (3), of Richlands, N.C.; parents, Jim and Linda Wenger of Ainsworth, Iowa; sister, Emily (Cory) Crile of Aurora, Colo.; grandmother, Marilyn Cooper of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; father-in-law, Wallace (Debbie) Markham of La Pine, Ore.; brother-in-law, John Owen III of Trenton, Maine; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.
A celebration of Eric's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at South Hills Baptist Church, 6400 Holly Springs Rd., Raleigh, NC 27606. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to purchase Bibles through The Gideons International for distribution to a number of the people Eric hopes to meet in heaven someday.
