Erma Massey
Erma Massey, 75, of Donnellson, passed away in the emergency room of McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill., at 1:12 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.4, at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point where the family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Apo T. Mpanda as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Point.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church Renovation Fund.
Erma was born Aug. 21, 1932 at St. Paul, the daughter of Rudolf and Elizabeth Umthun Hellweg. On Feb. 27, 1954 she married Harold "Skeet" Massey.
Erma was a babysitter in her home for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point and Southeast Iowa Antique Gas Engine Club. Erma enjoyed crocheting, collecting salt and pepper shakers, embroidering, gardening, and growing flowers.
Survivors include five daughters, Leanne Babington of Revere, Mo., Roxanne (Jim) Stemple of Donnellson, Lorianne (Mike) Jarvis of Franklin, Julianne (Dwayne) Haley of Montrose, and Marcianne (David) Tabb of Farmington; one son, Robert (Tammy) Massey of Donnellson; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Florence Brown of Fort Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Rudy, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters.
