Ervin Reschly, 93, of Wayland died at 3 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in Wayland. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation was from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7 at the Sugar Creek Church with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established to the Sugar Creek Church or Crooked Creek Christian Campgrounds.
Mr. Reschly was born May 24, 1906, at the family farm home two miles south of Wayland, the son of Joseph and Barbara Nebel Reschly. He married Esther Roth on April 24, 1930. He resided in the Wayland community his entire life. He accepted Christ as a youth and was baptized at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, where he remained a member until his death. He was active in the building trades from his youth until his retirement and spent the majority of his career as a bricklayer. His skill is evidenced by many homes and commercial buildings in Southeast Iowa.
Survivors include six children, Mary Cross of Des Moines, David Reschly of Monroe, Mich., Lester Reschly of Columbia, Mo., Ann Martin of Napannee, Ind., Christian Reschly of Davenport, and Mark Reschly of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter; seven brothers; and five sisters.
