Esther Faye Goettsche, 74, of Fairfield, passed away Friday, March 20, 2020, at Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. At this time, a private family service will be held for children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House or the donor's choice. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Andrea Hagist, 17 Bear Creek Estates Dr., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
Esther was born May 22, 1945, in West Plaines, Mo., to Theodore and Laura (Moore) Prevett. She married Raymond Warren Hutton in 1961 in Fairfield. He passed away in 1975. On June 7, 1980, she married Roy Wesley Goettsche in Richland. He passed away Oct. 21, 2016.
Esther worked at Fairfield Clinic for over 20 years as a medical secretary. She was a member of the Elks Lodge and a coffee club. Over the years, Esther and Roy enjoyed many fun adventures with their best friends, the "Cruise Crew." They also enjoyed many years of square dancing and spending weekends at the cabin on the Des Moines River. Esther was an amazing cook whose specialty was her legendary pumpkin bars. She was an avid bird watcher, quilter and gardener.
She will be missed by her children, Daniel Goettsche of Fairfield, Andrea (David) Crow of St. Louis, Mo., Kay Hutton of Indianola, Andrea (Mark) Hagist of Ottumwa and Marcy (Michael) Murphy of Brighton; seven grandchildren, Ron Fosdyck, Logan Crow, Ryan Hagist, Caleb Watson, Alexandrea Murphy, Lydia Watson and Maya Murphy; one great-grandson, Hayden Roy Fosdyck; and four siblings, Violet Oswalt of Fairfax, Mary Andersen of Neligh, Neb., Kathy Ward of Branson, Mo., and Kenny Prevett of Stockport.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Laura Prevett; husbands, Ray Hutton and Roy Goettsche; grandson, Ethan Roy Murphy; brothers, Virgil, Clinton, George, Theodore and Glen Prevett; and sister, Sharon Koch.
