Ethel M. Asby
Ethel Marie Asby, 95, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Danville, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Woodlands at Methwick in Cedar Rapids.
According to her wishes, Mrs. Asby has been cremated. Joint services for Mrs. Asby and her husband Frederick will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Asby was born Aug. 17, 1912 in Prairie Grove, the daughter of Henry and Marie Barklage Bohlen. On May 28, 1934, she married Frederick Asby in Lewiston, Ill.
A graduate of Danville High School and of Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, she taught school prior to her marriage. She was a member of Danville Congregational United Church of Christ and the Garden Club, she attended the Christian Women's Club in Burlington and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was very active in church activities and the Women's Fellowship, and sang with Choral Belles in California. She enjoyed music, people, babies, her family and her church.
She is survived by a son, David Asby and his wife Marjorie of Solon; two daughters, Mary Ann Root and her husband Larry of Cedar Rapids and Janet Schroder of Danville; one sister, Dorothy Thye of Wever; one brother, Dale Bohlen and his wife Pauline of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, nine brothers and sisters and one son-in-law preceded her in death.
