Ethel Pauline Jeffries, 96, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
Celebration of life services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday morning. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Ethel was born July 1, 1926, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Pauline (Wingler) Bruegge. Ethel was united in marriage to John Jeffries on March 5, 1948, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She worked as a Nurses Aid at the Washington Care Center for 15 years before retiring in 1998. Ethel also worked at the Diamond Inn in Washington for several years.
Ethel loved to fish and spend time with her family. She enjoyed collecting tea pots. Ethel was a member of the band, “The Good Timers,” where she played guitar and sang for 10 years.
Ethel is survived by her daughter, Judith (Jerry) Carmichael of Washington; sons, James (Anna) Jeffries of Washington, Randall Jeffries of Livingston, Texas, and Arthur (Julie) Jeffries of Des Moines; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Kaufman of Washington.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Pauline Bruegge; husband, John Jeffries; sisters, Gertrude Swift and Elsie Campbell; and daughter-in-law, Tami Jeffries.
