Eugene Lloyd Hoyle, age 80, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at his residence under hospice care.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, with Pastor Ben Linville officiating and military honors accorded by Washington American Legion Post 29. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa. General calling hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, with the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for PAWS & More Animal Shelter or Independent Bible Church. Gene was born on June 14, 1945, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dwight Delbert and Olive Louise (Cady) Hoyle. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1963 and proudly served in the United States Navy and Army Reserve. Gene married Vina Lorraine Cross in Midland, Texas, on February 10, 1968.
Gene worked for River Products prior to enlisting in the Navy and later retired from Proctor & Gamble, where he worked as a distribution coordinator. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for the Washington Community School District for four and a half years. Gene was a member of the Independent Bible Church in Wayland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, and hand-feeding raccoons.
Gene is survived by his wife, Lori Hoyle of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Donna (David) Lansdowne of Grand Prairie, Texas; son, Ron (Shelly) Hoyle of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Brenda (Kim) Barthelman of Washington, Iowa; and daughter, Gina (Damon) Biddle of Allen, Texas; along with seven grandchildren: Adrienne, Andrea, Vincent, Colton, Mitchell, Brinton and Tristian; and four great-grandchildren: Keylen, Jayceon, Jaxton, and Brenlyn. He is also survived by his brother, Glen (Jane) Hoyle of Ainsworth, Iowa; sister, Marilyn (Dick) Martin of Brighton, Iowa; sister, Kathryn (Dick) Newman of Brighton, Iowa; sister, Donna (Beryl) Rugg of Wayland, Iowa; and brother, Wayne (Amy) Hoyle of Brighton, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
