COLUMBUS JUNCTION ? Eugene Leroy Newcomb, 64, of Letts, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 2, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction with Nick Goddard officiating. Burial will be in Letts Cemetery. Following the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Letts Community Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. A general memorial has been established at the funeral home in his name.
Mr. Newcomb was born Oct. 3, 1952, in Muscatine, the son of Clarence and Marie (Hoyt) Newcomb Sr. He married Diane Kisner on Jan. 20, 1973, in Rock Island, Illinois.
He was a 1971 graduate of L-M High School. He retired in 2008 from Grain Processing Corporation with over 30 years of service. He then went on to work for Tri-Oak Foods in Oakville. He enjoyed working with his roses, fishing and going to the casino. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and his dog and his cat.
Surviving are six children, Kelly Newcomb of Letts, Dianna and husband Brian McDole of Riverside, Deanna and husband Chris McDonald of Springfield, Ohio, Patti and husband Johnny Cash of Grimes, Jamie Schildberg of Coralville, and Genia and husband Jim Connor of Letts; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Esther Velasquez of Moline, Illinois, Clarence Newcomb Jr. of Muscatine, Harold Newcomb and wife Carolyn of Illinois City, Illinois, Hazel Rickheim and husband Everett of Wapello, Stella Newcomb of Davenport, Rodney Newcomb of Letts, Tina Campbell and husband Greg of West Liberty, and Tara Jarbo and husband Jason of Solon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Hazel Hoyt; his paternal grandparents, Henry and Cleda Newcomb; one daughter, Maggie Boyce; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one niece; and two sons-in-law, Marcel Regnier III, and Tony Boyce.
