KALONA ? Eunice Miller Stutzman, 82, of rural Keota, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Salem Mennonite Church in rural Keota. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will greet friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Stutzman was born June 13, 1934, in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Dennis J. and Ida (Helmuth) Miller. She married Wilford Stutzman in 1975.
She accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized into the Amish Church at 16 years of age. At age 27, she began teaching school and taught in Pennsylvania and Virginia before teaching at the Friendship and Sharon Bethel schools in Iowa. From 1965 to 1968 she served in Berlin, Germany, at Friedensheim helping with refugee children. When she and her husband were married, she immediately took up responsibilities as wife, mother, grandmother and minister?s wife. She accompanied her husband in his travels to the Belize mission many times. Due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis she was confined to a wheelchair in 1994. Though handicapped, she continued to use her talents in cooking, sewing, and writing.
Surviving are eight children and their spouses, David and Nancy, Daniel and Judy of Punta Gorda, Belize, Lois and Nevin Miller of Auburn, Nebraska, Philip and Emma, Paul and Leah of Montrose, Colorado, Joanna and Alf Coon of Keota, Rachel and Daryl Beachy of Kalona, and Steve and Dorcas of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; 50 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Emma Swartzentruber of Costa Rica, Mary D. Miller of Kalona, Bertha Brenneman of Kalona, Lavina Hochstedler of Grand Blanc, Michigan, and Elsie Miller of Kalona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilford; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Rudy, Simon, and Jonas; and two sisters, Verna, and Amelia.
