Evan W. Gamon, age 57, of Coralville, Iowa, died Saturday, November 12, 2022, in Coralville following a sudden illness.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. The family will be present to receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or House of Heroes. Evan was born June 4, 1965, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Wayne R. and Edonna (Borchardt) Gamon. He attended school in Washington, graduating from Washington High School in 1983. Evan attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa.
Evan lived in New York City where he was a commodities trader for many years. He was working in the World Trade Center in 1993 during the first attack and lived one block from the Twin Towers during the 2001 attack. He unfortunately lost many friends and co-workers in the 2001 attack. Upon returning to Iowa in 2013, Evan worked at the Kalona Cheese Factory for several years.
He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan and enjoyed watching golf on TV. Evan was a member of the Washington Choral Society and the Methodist Church Choir and was known for his booming bass voice. He was an accomplished cook and worked as a chef in various restaurants in Iowa and New York. Evan’s cooking expertise was often called upon by family and friends when it was time to host gatherings.
Evan is survived by his mom, Edonna Gamon of Washington, Iowa; sister, Angela Greiner and husband John of Tiffin, Iowa; three nieces and nephews: Alexander Greiner, Peyton Greiner and wife Sara, and Olivia Greiner.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2015 and nephews, Chandler and Clayton Greiner, in 1995.
